I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist, certified by the American Board of Hypnotherapy in 1994. Trance-formation is a term I like to use to describe the process of hypnosis. As a trained, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, I help my clients form a trance state in their mind through relaxation & visualization. There are many ways to form a trance. In fact, it is perfectly natural for us to go in and out of trance states all the time! Have you ever been driving and realized after you arrived at your destination that you don't recall the last few miles (or more) of the trip? If it's a routine drive, your conscious mind can be distracted with all kinds of thoughts, while your unconscious mind directs your body (like a robot) to safely reach your goal. You may wonder to yourself, "Did I stop at that intersection?" How did you make it to your destination safely? You were on auto-pilot. It happens all the time. The unconscious you  is in the drivers' seat, while the conscious you is busy doing other things! This is great when you are multi-tasking, but detrimental when it leads to behaviors you want to avoid.

What if there was a way to change those unconscious patterns and routines from self-defeating, unwanted behaviors, to the positive life-affirming habits of the successful person you were meant to be? Is it possible to break the spell you are under? Are you truly living your life or just existing? If you are ruled by your emotions and change your mind with every mood swing, then you are a slave to your body's conditioned responses. When do you want to reclaim your life and move forward in the direction of your choosing? It is possible. . . if you can imagine it.

Neural Pathways

Behavior is learned and can be un-learned, with the right tools. A habit is simply a behavior that has been practiced and reinforced, consciously and unconsciously, over a period of time. Some habits are good, like brushing your teeth every day. Some habits are detrimental, like eating a half-gallon of ice cream every night before bedtime. The human body gets used to certain behaviors, or is conditioned to respond a certain way to triggers in the environment. Sometimes, we feel like slaves to our bodies, confusing our wants and needs. Taking the path of least resistance, we succumb to our base selves. Immediate, short-term gratification overrules the human capacity for logic and reasoning. . . the easier, softer way, according to the big book of AA.

The pathways  along which information travels through the neurons (nerve  cells) of the brain can be compared with the paths through a forest or wooded area. Have you ever walked through the woods on a well-trodden path? What about taking the road less traveled?  The first pathway is worn, predictable and well traveled, like a habit or unconscious thought that leads to a compulsive behavior. It is a groove which deepens and widens every time that pathway is used. Neuropathways  are the same. We get stuck in a rut, or we want to get our groove on, instead of changing our mind-set  in order to reach our goal or destination. Hypnotherapy is a short-cut through the thicket of the mind. . . a tool used to navigate the thought processes that manifest in predictable behavior - a tool used to derail or detour that locomotive of thought from loco motives  (unconscious driving the train) to self-control and manifestation of your goal(s).
